Bentleigh lawn bowlers can now bowl day and night thanks to new competition lighting on the southern green of the Bentleigh Bowling Club, made possible by the Allan Labor Government.
Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos today formally switched on the club’s new 200 lux LED lighting, supported by a $25,000 grant from the Victorian Government.
Since 1946 the Bentleigh Bowling Club has been a focal point of bowls in the area. Today membership has grown to almost 150 members of all ages, and competition and social bowls is more popular than ever.
The new southern green lighting meets competition standards and enables the club to cater for increasing demand and host more bowls - from barefoot games to competitive pennant matches.
They are also energy savers with efficient LED fittings spreading even light, improving safety for players and encouraging greater participation in lawn bowls for all.
The club can now build on its memberships, extend pennant competitions, and host more intra and interclub tournaments.
The Victorian Budget 2023/24 is providing more than $213 million to deliver and improve community sports infrastructure and support initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local sports clubs and organisations.
This brings the Victorian Government’s investment into community sport and active recreation infrastructure to more than $1.9 billion since 2014.
Nick Staikos MP acknowledged project partner Bentleigh Bowling Club for its $10,111 contribution and commitment to deliver the project.
