Glen Eira Football Club and Mackie Cricket Club can look forward to celebrating the big wins under the one roof at Mackie Road Reserve in Bentleigh East with pavilion works now underway.
Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos joined representatives from the Glen Eira City Council and local clubs to officially begin construction, made possible by a $3 million Allan Labor Government investment.
With more families taking up sport in growing communities like Bentleigh East, there’s a demand for sports facilities to match that growth.
The pavilion redevelopment will deliver new player and umpires’ change rooms, all suitable for women and girls, accessible public amenities, kitchen and kiosk, a multipurpose social room and storage areas to support local clubs.
Once complete, the new venue will provide a new home ground advantage and provide a great base for grassroots sport and the community to come together and play the sports they love.
The works will provide new employment opportunities during the construction phase with the pavilion expected to be ready for the clubs and community by the 2027 winter sport season.
The Victorian Budget 2025/26 is providing $20 million to support the development of high-quality, accessible com-munity sports infrastructure across the state.
It’s part of the more than $2.4 billion the Allan Labor Government has invested in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and building the sporting facilities that our communities deserve.
Nick Staikos MP acknowledged the Glen Eira City Council for kicking in $1.6 million and for their commitment to delivering the project.
